Queer Joy is Community
Apr. 27th, 2024 10:46 pmToday I went off to bells, which was very pleasant, even if the skill level in the room was all over the place and I got the vague sense that no one was actually all that satisfied with what they were doing, even though we were all doing okay. It was a lovely last-minute surprise to see our youngest ringer show up, especially since I haven't gotten to see her since her mom emailed the list to inform us of her new name and pronouns.
Now, in addition to talking to me endlessly about ringing and math and minecraft and youtube, she is very very excited to talk to me about queer things. She told me a bit about her OC, who is a gigantic trans woman ("like, seven foot nine") with arms and face covered in tattoos ("so she looks scary, but they're all like flowers and cats" at which point I started the "looks like she could kill you..." and kiddo joined in on "...but is actually a cinnamon roll") and gets married in the third video game (it is unclear the plot or progress on these games) but is so tall she has to pick up her wife to kiss. I think this is fucking phenomenal, and with mom's permission, made sure kiddo has my email if she wants to tell me more.
(Mom also expressed some relief in terms of kindof a "oh good, she can talk to other trans folk" and a little bit of worry about if she was doing okay with it and I point-blank was like "you love her and you are supporting her, everything else is gravy")
Anyways, I now have homework to watch at least a couple episodes of The Owl House before the next time I see kiddo at bells, which is entirely doable since I've heard it's Awesome from several other people along the way. The moral of this story is _fuck_ I love babyqueers so much. This nerdy eleven(12?) year old who just wants to take old electronics apart and can barely stop fidgeting long enough to ring a bell....this is what the republicans are scared of? This endless font of joy and enthusiasm? Couldn't be me, give me more of this everywhere.
So bells was really nice. After I got to see Leo the bagelmonger for a bit, and when he had to take more orders Kyle was all like "wait so you're friends?" and I had to be like "uh, the siblinghood of transes has caused me to have a slightly parasocial but probably legitimate friendship with the person who sells me a bagel every other week, yes"
(Leo and I started to become friends the week where I was all "hey I like your pronoun pin" and he was all "thanks I like yours" *EXCHANGE KNOWING NODS* and from there it just developed in a handful of sentences on the regular. We've talked about relationships and media and therapists and horror and joy and I really need to figure out if there's a correct way to give him my contact info without it seeming pressuring or whatever, because I would totally be legit friends with him if he wanted but also he is working at the bagel place and I am a customer and I know I'm paying him to be nice to me, but ALSO I think this level of interaction is enough above and beyond what I am paying for that there's something legitimate to it?)
And then I was doing food on the greenway and I'm all like "oh shit, my train is at 2:20, I should probably mosey along and Austin was like "uh, it's 2:02 and Google says it'll take 18 minutes to walk to South Station" and so OFF I GO. It takes me eleven minutes (and then another four minutes to actually get through the station and onto the train) but checkmate google, you ain't got nothin' on a short person with a place to be.
I got on a train and went to PROVIDENCE to visit Tuesday, who lives here again and I am so happy about that fact! We got lunch at a little burger joint with outdoor seating, and then retired to her place where she cuddled the anxiety out of me. (I'm mostly anxious about school/work and stuff, so she can't actually do anything actionable, but it was nice to not have to think and just snuggle.)
Dinner was leftover pizza and soon it will be time for bed! Tomorrow we might to go the park for a queer meetup, and at some point I have to decide whether I leave late Sunday or early Monday --I'm sorta leaning towards the latter, but we'll see.
Goodnight!
