Dec. 30th, 2019 01:34 amTomorrow is my last full day in Dallas. Then I go zooming off to Philly (featuring a visit to the fucking terrible Philly airport), maybe get a dinner or something with Galia (A-plus thing to do!) then go to Hogmanay and see a great many friends, dance a lot, do a tea, dance more, go off to spend the night with various friends (yayyyyyyyyy), go to the afterparty where I get to hang with more friends, and then get in a car and driiiiiiiive up to Boston!
Where I will almost certainly not arrive in time to go join Austin for whatever he's planning to do for his birfday, but at least can send good vibes as I stagger home to sleep for a year. By which I mean the 2nd is a full day of school yayyyy I guess I should prep some lessons at some point, oh jeeze.
Today was a really lovely day! Lots of things got done!
I woke up, fucked about, and entered into a game of Kingsburg with mom, Eric, and Fish which turned out _very_ close at the last minute (about a four point spread) but ultimately with me tied-for-last. I had a spectacular time though, and set up a really good and dumb little engine that I should really fuck with in the future too! Note to self.
wabbit and Robin both arrived by the end of it, so all of us ate lunch and chatted and chilled, then me, wabbit, Robin, and mom went off to the giant master bathroom for important Makeup Tutorial Stuff from a certified Person What Does This For A Living No Really. Robin straight up *teaches* stage costuming and make-up, so like...yeah. We were specifically doing the "how does one make their female-assigned face look more like a typical male-assigned face" tutorial, and it was cool as hell! Robin gave us goodie bags with basic shadow/highlight palettes and brushes (she is the fucking sweetest) and a good long lesson with many field trips out to the living room to grab Eric or Dad and admire their bone structure and detail typical differences in jaw shape or whatever.
Afterwards, Robin wound up doing my eyes (mostly for fun) so I wound up with really seriously intense eyeshadow game, which does not bother me in the slightest, except for the part where I have to remember not to rub my face. I got some pictures, and she might be doing more of that tomorrow too. Check my twitter?
Post makeup adventure, mom had to run to the airport to pick up more folks, leaving me and wabbit to finish the puzzle from hell and gossip about Star Wars. We both had pretty similar opinions, which made it squeeful and happy, and I was pleased. wabbs went off home to feed the cat and pat the sick husband on the head, I wound up playing a couple quick rounds of Skull with Eric and Fish. We were all set to start a game of Illimat when mom and Robin returned, bearing with them an Alan (we love Alan very much, he's one of the Chicago favourites) and Carver (who we also like quite a bit, as he's a lot friendlier to the rest of us weirdos than most train gamers).
Alan-mom-Robin-Eric-Fish did another game of Kingsburg (we had promised Robin she'd get a chance) while I sat with them and did the barest beginnings of some grading. I did not get very much of anything done at all, and it's all still completely daunting, but let's be real here: I did more than zero, and I did more than the previous week of vacation combined, so no regrets. After, there was an Adventure To The Grocery Store (pokemon!) and then back home to make soup and latkes and play more games.
Alan taught me, Robin, and Eric a cute game called SpaceBase, which I had fun with. It's all about rolling dice and scoring on each others rolls, and Robin beat me and Eric combined, so nyahhhh. Also, while the grocery crew (including Fish, the only Jewish person at the house) was out, the non-grocery crew (Robin and Eric) managed to set up an incredibly dangerous and charming menorah by affixing candles via their wax bottoms to a tupperware. Fish was honestly really touched, and pulled up the prayers and lit the candles, and we all admired for about thirty seconds before he said "so I'm not allowed to explicitly ask y'all to blow them out..." and we got the hint. Nothing burned down or melted, so it was a success!
By the end of SpaceBase, it was nearly ten-thirty at night, which was bedtime for a number of people, and flop the brain a bit time for others. I played some dumb phone games, before doing some ablutions and now I am ready to go the fuck to sleep. Goodnight, y'all! Be well!
