ADVENTURE ON THE CAPE!!!

So, I had an Extremely Lovely adventure on the cape this weekend! I'm pleased about it!

Austin asked me last week if I wanted to go down to the cape with him to hang out with the Orleans ringers for their big giant end-of-season lobster eating party. I like the cape, I like staying at The Noisy Oyster1, I like Austin, I agreed in about .02 seconds.

So we drove down last night after peal attempts and Costco Adventures. It was a totally lovely trip down, filled with funny NPR bits and good conversation. We pulled up just around ten, and stepped out into a world bewildering with stars. How utterly perfect is the night sky!

There was conversation with Sarah and Kira until Sarah went off to bed, and a vague determination from the three of us "kids"2 declaring that there were a Great Many Things that we could do tomorrow and that we all planned to do absolutely none of them. Bed was around midnight and very cozy.

I woke up a bit before the alarm, and reveled in the feeling of not having to get up. Also, I absolutely *exalted* in the fact that I could lie in bed with a boy I loved and read my book and look over and watch him sleep and make small noises and nestle up against me and oh, that was _such_ a good morning. I finished my book around the time he actually woke up, so I dragged him out of bed and we got delicious scones and bacon cooked by Sarah.

Cue a long leisurely breakfast, in which we did absolutely nothing, but talked about bells and I did some sketching/doodling. Eventually Austin declared that we should have an Adventure, so we determined that we'd get out some bikes and go eat lunch somewhere on the cape. We thus embarked on a long and lovely bike ride (I was riding a 40 year old Raleigh, which made me feel much like my mother) cruising around the paths of the cape. There was what was essentially a batman road but for bikes (hilly and winding and fabulous) and then a long beautiful rail trail.

We ate lunch on the beach, and then Austin and I stuck our feet in the ocean and he skipped rocks and I looked for beautiful beach stones. Then we ate ice cream at a convenient little restaurant we passed by. All told, we probably biked 4-5 miles in a nice square around the cape. And on the way home, we passed within a few feet of a big honkin' turkey, who just...did not mind our existence at _all_.

There was enough time once we put the bikes away for Kira to go take a shower and Austin and I to go jump in the bay. We dodged seaweed and (poorly) body-surfed on the arbitrary little waves, and I actually listened to my body when it gave the first pang of "hey, remember that time a year ago where you got me too cold and then I wouldn't stop shivering for over an hour" and we got out before I got too cold. A shower for us, and then it was just about time for the Orleans ringers to arrive.

I wasn't eating lobster, which meant I had to console myself on delicious lasagna, farm-fresh corm, giant bread loaf, and fancy cheese and crackers. Oh, and then three kinds of dessert. It's been like four hours and I still feel thoroughly overstuffed, nearly unpleasantly so.

Dinner conversation was varied and lovely, with a just fantastically entertaining guest sitting just across from me. All the Orleans ringers are just....deeply kind people. It's the usual reminder to me that generally, while I find myself slightly nervous when interacting with Christians, people who have devoted themself to the siblinghood3 tend to just be kind and open and caring.

Post dinner was helping clean up, and then a very long and lovely drive back. And now I am home, I've written my words, and it's time to go to sleep so I can go work in the morning like a crazy person. Ta!

MOOP!

1: The house belonging to Sarah and Tom. Sarah is basically my mom but a little softer and a little less sarcastic. She is _killer_ fantastic and as far as I can tell, all the Youth Ringers want to grow up to be her. Or at least Kira and I do!

2: I believe Kira and Austin are both 25. I know I'm 30. Mere children, all!

3: I don't know what the correct way to refer to "Brothers and Sisters but like in the God way"
