Dec. 24th, 2018 01:11 amToday was a very movie-centric day!
Oh sure, there was also tree-decorating and errand-running and grocery-shopping, but we did mandatory family fun (minus dad) to go see Anna and the Apocalypse at the second-run theatre a couple towns over. This was mom's third time seeing it, Al's second, and mine and Shannon's first --it was a great flick! I laughed, I cried, I...don't think it changed my life, but one of the songs has been stuck in my head all day, and that's pretty good.
((Anna is a high-school-musical-zombie-horror-film. It has an excellent scene set in a bowling alley and fighting zombies with bowling equipment! It has a song about fish, and a song about santa that is *even more sexy* than the one in Mean Girls. It had pretty great acting, from an entirely unknown cast. And most important of all, but also spoilery as hell so rot-13'd, gur yrfovna yvirf!!!))
After we were home and settled in for dinner and everything (mom made "ten can chili" with mine and Shan's help --it's very spicy! Good for my cold.) we all curled up to watch Upgrade. Another indie movie, this time very solidly action-thriller (and lots of blood). This was on Shannon's recommendation, and it was...delightful is not the right word, but excellent might be. It's a pretty solid story, with the tropes just familiar enough to make you feel smug you predicted them, and the most "thanks, I hate it" happily ever after I've ever seen in film (I'm pretty sure that's a compliment). It also has a non-binary character! That's pretty great too!
I wouldn't recommend either movie if you're blood/gore sensitive, but other than that, they were each A Good Time.
