Today was a very movie-centric day!

Oh sure, there was also tree-decorating and errand-running and grocery-shopping, but we did mandatory family fun (minus dad) to go see Anna and the Apocalypse at the second-run theatre a couple towns over. This was mom's third time seeing it, Al's second, and mine and Shannon's first --it was a great flick! I laughed, I cried, I...don't think it changed my life, but one of the songs has been stuck in my head all day, and that's pretty good.

((Anna is a high-school-musical-zombie-horror-film. It has an excellent scene set in a bowling alley and fighting zombies with bowling equipment! It has a song about fish, and a song about santa that is *even more sexy* than the one in Mean Girls. It had pretty great acting, from an entirely unknown cast. And most important of all, but also spoilery as hell so rot-13'd, gur yrfovna yvirf!!!))

After we were home and settled in for dinner and everything (mom made "ten can chili" with mine and Shan's help --it's very spicy! Good for my cold.) we all curled up to watch Upgrade. Another indie movie, this time very solidly action-thriller (and lots of blood). This was on Shannon's recommendation, and it was...delightful is not the right word, but excellent might be. It's a pretty solid story, with the tropes just familiar enough to make you feel smug you predicted them, and the most "thanks, I hate it" happily ever after I've ever seen in film (I'm pretty sure that's a compliment). It also has a non-binary character! That's pretty great too!

I wouldn't recommend either movie if you're blood/gore sensitive, but other than that, they were each A Good Time.

Adventures in Film Studies:

Today Shannon showed Alys and I "Peter Pan Goes Wrong"! It was _really_ excellent --it's the cast of The Play That Goes Wrong doing Peter Pan. It's pretty fucking funny, moreso if you know anything about theatre to recognize just _how_ badly things are going. We're now watching She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, also on Shannon's rec. No, I hadn't seen it yet (nor had Alys), so it's nice to be watching it finally. Just three queer kids enjoying some quality queer media!

Adventures in Wretched Consumption:

It has been...a fair amount of shopping today. Damnit, I actually had all my shopping done, or so I claimed, but...you know. I do enjoy Wretched Excess on Christmas Day, be it giving or receiving. It was fun shopping though! We went to what is probably the biggest Board Game Store I've ever been to --it's in the remains of an old supermarket, and the footprint of the playing tables alone was bigger than most of the game shops in Boston.

Adventures in Chrimmas:

It's Chrimmas! It's the night before Chrimmas! I got to wrap presents, and yesterday we decorated the tree and all of this is pretty great. Later tonight we're gonna do the traditional reading of The Night Before Christmas, and then go to sleep! I'm actually managing to write my words before midnight, which hasn't happened in days and days, but maybe this way I can actually go right to bed after I finish. Well, after I finish and after I play a little bit of Santa with the stockings.

Adventures in Writing:

I don't actually have much to say about writing, actually. Indeed, I am not doing much worth writing about these days. Theoretically this means I switch into fiction writing, but also mehhhhh. I'm glad to be at home and relaxing and all that, but at the same time, it's a little hard to come up with new things to say when I'm just playing a lot of dumb games and relaxing plenty.

I hope you're doing well, wherever you may be this week.
