Rambly good things
Dec. 18th, 2018 12:25 amSunday was pretty good, even though it was the eightieth straight day in a row where I was vaguely blah and depressed. (well no, it's really only been since mid-November). I did some chrimmas shopping (including getting a thing off Shannon's list that she explicitly mentioned, which I later realized was also on Alys's list, and now I gotta get back to Target) which involved going to a *third* independent bookstore and spending another forty bucks on books, and look, my family is a VERY GOOD family okay? Books, old and new!
I also had a pretty good day at bells for Service Ringing, even if the whole "not good enough" thing has been echoing in the back of my head way louder than usual (The "not good enough" is always really loud for bells. I don't really want to have this argument with anyone, because it makes it hurt worse). But I got to do two plain touches of Grandsire from the two, and ring up and down some bells in almost vaguely tolerable peal, and some pretty great hunting on a multitude of numbers.
In the afternoon, a bunch of us tromped back to Advent and did a Tower Cleaning. It was an excellent example of octopuses providing illumination1, as they say2, and in just a couple hours, the tower looked demonstrably better and was much less dusty. I got to use the industrial dishwasher (yay!) and got to help
choco_frosh hang a new rope (YAY!) which involved climbing around in the bellfry, sitting on the two a while, and pulling rope really really tight3.
Today was my last day of Spanish 101 PD, thank god. It's been a really good and interesting course, and I've definitely enjoyed and felt humbled by it, but oh god, Mondays. Hour and a half of prep work before school, five straight hours of teaching, hour of prep (which means grading and attendance and emails) then off to Green Club for fifteen minutes as co-advisor then to Spanish PD for three hours then somehow get myself to dance. It's been...it's a lot.
That was nice though, and dance was lovely even though I was exhausted and did not even bother putting on my ghillies. I helped run the raffle, and then won a bunch of stuff in the raffle (mostly through judicious use of statistics --I had 24 tickets, and I put lots of them into cups where other people did not put very many).
I did not win the Pooh Set shirt, which I have desperately wanted one for eighty-seven years (approximately) but I *did* win the bottle of Gentleman Jack. That was pure luck, not statistics, since I only dropped a single ticket in there. And then realized that I didn't need an entire bottle of hella booze, no matter how good it is, because I've still got 7/8ths of a bottle of Macallan 12 year on my shelf *plus* the remains of the cannon booze4.
So I did the absolutely logical thing and traded the bottle of booze to my dance-sis for the Pooh Set shirt. It's a little too big for me, and in a colour that isn't actually my colour, but seriously, I've basically coveted these shirts since I first learned what a poussette is, and this is _finally_ the time I've managed to get my grubby little paws on one.
Four more days and then I will be On Vacation With The Fam and I'm looking forward to it. Have to make myself grade some while I'm in Texas, but meh, I'll manage.

1: Many hands make light work
2: I read a lot of Far Side as a kid
3: I knew my misspent youth would come in handy someday! Also it's really weird to listen to discussions and have to be careful when I say things like "no, hemp rope is totally already legal in this country" or "yeah, hemp is pretty rough you should get bamboo if you want some really soft rope"
4: Triona and I bought this at Pinewoods auction a few years ago. It's...some sort of perfectly passable whiskey. AND THE LID HAS A CANNON AND IT GOES UP AND DOWN AND UP AND DOWN! We split it at auction half and half, and technically Triona owns the booze and I own the cannon.
