So tonight was the SCD Cambridge Class End of Season Party. There is always ice cream, and a raffle, and good dancing.

I spent the entire first half hawking tickets for the delicious Cakes and Ale we raffle off (disclaimer: not entirely cakes and ale). It was a lot of fun --the money goes to a good cause, everyone knows it, and I think we made about 200$! I eventually started telling people I was selling them "pure gen-u-wine optimism!", as more tickets were bought and the chances of winning any of the good stuff went down.

Oh, and the nice part of working desk downstairs (away from the dancing, boo), was that I got to see all the goodies as they came in...including the 750ml bottle of 12 year Glenlivet. Hell yes I bid on it, and because I often have uncanny luck at ticket draws (I may mention the mechanics, I may mention several snogs1), that bottle is ALL MINE!

Or at least, all mine until I'ma go to Pinewoods, at which point I may be persuaded to share it out over several good evenings.

Anyways, after getting to have quite a lot of positive social with "selling stuff", and winning a bottle of hella scotch, I finally made it upstairs for dancing. There were some excellent dances, with some excellent people, and as things were winding down, my nice friend Rebecca wound up throwing her (my ageish) son at me. "You waltz, right Kat? You two should waltz!"

Ain't no wingman like ladies my mom's age, apparently2. The boy most definitely could waltz, and a few beats in when I mentioned happily "oh, it feels really good to not have to lead", he seemed to pick up on that as a challenge, and started to throw some decidedly swing-like motions in there. I'm not sure if he was actively trying to impress me, but he certainly managed it --he was smooth, fluid, gentlemanly, and an excellent lead. A++ would waltz again.

(And seriously, I love leading waltzes, but I had not realized just how long it'd been since I'd waltzed with someone as-good-or-better, and potentially available leading me. Like, I'm certain Larry and I waltzed at Balticon, and he is the king of everything, but he's also got a son a few years younger than me and is happily monogamous. There's a little bit of relaxed you get when you can actually be flirting, even just in movement, and it's wondrous.)

Add to all that there were several dancefriends I haven't seen in ages (notably Laurie, who had a baby about 14 months ago, and for some reason does not come out as often). So all in all, the end of season party was a fine one, and I feel more energized about Scottish than I have in ages.

MOOP!

1: This scans to a part of a song from a musical and no I'm not telling you which, just that this is a thing my brain does _constantly_.

2: This waltz was not the only nice thing to be brought to me by awesome older ladies recently. But it's the much more "I can talk about this in journal" thing.
