Sep. 17th, 2011 12:36 amI have another post and a half of sundries after this one. Technically these are mid-August sundries. I'm just going to go ahead and give you twenty or so links every day until I finally run out. I anticipate this being just in time for me to get very behind again.
*I might've linked this before, that's okay. Kermit Bale. If you like muppets, or Christian Bale, or hilarious posts that someone put exactly the right amount of time into, you should look at this one.
*A Letter to Bella, and Other Girls With Blue Shoes. The author mentions in comments that she's going to write one for boys as well. I look forward to it, as I feel it's just as important, if not more so, to make it clear that boys may be feminine as it is to establish girls can be masculine.
*Also Dragon*Con photos, there is this picture of me, and Sparr, and Sparr's shark. Great pic of all three of us!
*[Trigger warning, racial profiling, abuse by authority]
In case you were wondering, Homeland Security is still terrible and awful. And willing to detain an entire plane for several hours because three, normal, completely unconnected people (two Indians, one half-arab half-jew) are randomly sitting together and then reported as "suspicious".
This is absolutely sickening.
*Also in case you were wondering, It still sucks to be gay, especially in NC which has passed an anti-gay marriage amendment. WELL DONE, NORTH CAROLINA! PLEASE FUCK OFF AND DIE.
(Except for you guys, Har and Wooze. You're cool)
*This book looks pretty great. And Rach will vouch for all four authors. If I had the money, I'd totally be getting a copy --I love retellings of old stories!
*Hey Cambervillians: Gargoyles is closing, next Tuesday. This is a shame, I enjoyed them the once or twice I've eaten there.
*A collection of limericks with interesting form or rhyme.
*The Hitcchiker's Guide to the Galaxy has this to say about Daleks... (YouTube link)
*Fat Ladies in SPAAAAACE!: A body-positive colouring book.
I am all for this sort of thing. Because I like colouring, and body positivity, and I'm growing increasingly fond of the absurd fifties style "LET'S ALL GO TO SPACE!" ideal.
*Leader of the Nerdfighters, John Green, has recently released Read it 1st, a website urging people to read the book before they see the movie. Includes a mailing list which will tell you what books are going to be upcoming movies.
I agree with Ria in that we shouldn't HAVE to read the book first --I don't want to read the book to every movie I see, because sometimes I think the movie is the better medium (see also Lord of the Rings, and I'm sorry, but I couldn't get through the histories, and so the movie version was *perfect*.) for the story, or tell a different story, or whathaveyou.
Luckily, there's a pledge you can sign for that, too.
*A recent Spiderman cover has Mary-Jane posed in an anotomically absurd position. People react by attempting to look comfortable in the same pose, and failing.
*I might have sundried this before, but this girl is awesome. "Is it OK to run an illegal library from my locker at school".
I want a follow-up. And then I want to sample the media property created around her life.
*"Who uses the post office?".
For reference, I'm not particularly in the demographics mentioned. If anything, I should be in the magical "oh, I have the internet now, I don't need a post office" group. Bullshit. I send packages to my friends, which I do by going to the post office and getting supplies. I buy stamps at the post office. I have contemplated a POBox, for the times when I haven't had a consistent address.
I _like_ post offices, and find them a useful and necessary thing to exist.
*The always-eloquent Luna has Some thoughts on tumblr as a blogging/communication/social media platform.
I started using tumblr a couple weeks ago. I have *thoughts* brewing, but they're not quite there yet. Rest assured I will post a Thing on it sometime.
*Home*Stuck fans, this is a YouTube video for you: [S] Everyone: Have Sweet Rave Party
Seriously, I've watched it like five times since Dog linked it to me yesterday. I have a problem.
*Museum of Small Things uses 3D printing technology to make rings. They are FUCKING BEAUTIFUL (I've linked my favourite, do click around.
*That's what she said dates back to the Edwardian period
*Six year old boy is in love with Blaine (from Glee), parents are awesome about it, this is such an adorable post.
*Stealth Shaming: What it is, why you shouldn't do it.
(Refers to the practise of shaming trans*folks for not outing themselves as trans, for whatever reason. Good read.)
