So.
Backhoe.
Backhoe
Months and months ago, Brenton was all like "I have a scheme!" Me being properly curious, I asked what (though whenever someone has a scheme, you're not going to get a real answer from them). He, of course, declined to tell me anything, save that it was for my birthday.
For much time now, he has been alluding to scheme. He requested a day of my time, somewhere in the week where we were both living in Boston1, and so I gave him last Wednesday. Slept over the night before, got up early that morning, and were on the road by about eight thirty, driving to...somewhere in Connecticut.
We arrive around the back of a building, winding up at a construction site. Brenton introduces me to Tom --a friend of one of Brenton's mom's friends. Tom introduces me to his backhoe, gives me the instructions on how it works, and lets me dig a big hole in the ground for two hours.
It
was
AWESOME!
There were no hidden layers, no pretending to be a pirate searching for treasure or digging to China, just me and moving dirt around and getting to play with a BIG FUCKING EXCAVATOR and it was about the single greatest birthday present I have ever received in my entire life. I smiled from the moment I figured it out until well after I had climbed out of the cab of the backhoe and we were on the road home.
And that is why my boyfriend is so way fucking cooler than your boyfriend. I mean, I've only had a backhoe on my wantlist for like eight years now. It's about damn time someone2 came through.

1: He just went off to the other end of MA for another month, because work. But soon he will return, and it will be fabulous!
2: In their defense, both kSatyr and Kyu have given me backhoes, which occasionally sit out on desks or shelves along with my other things that easily fit in one hand. Brenton still wins by a BILLION POINTS MORE THAN BOTH OF THEM COMBINED!
