May. 15th, 2022 10:34 pmIt was a pretty okay weekend!
I feel like I am desperately clawing my way back into Getting Things Done. I didn't feel like I'd slipped, but my room is a mess and I haven't earned a daily die in ages, and those are both signs that things are kinda falling apart. This week should be easier --much fewer things happening after school, for instance-- and maybe I can bring myself back to something that feels less Depressed.
But the weekend was nice. Friday I completely burnt out, but I went home and did flopping and fell asleep on the couch a bit and then Austin appeared and we went up to bed and snuggled and that was really lovely. Leisurely morning awakening, and then bike bike bike to bells, on the first really hot day of the year! I wore a sundress. I was still sweating like wild by the time I got to Old North.
Bells was very nice --we had two beginners in attendance, and two visitors from London. "real" ringers, jere7my quipped, trying to tease me, and he was actually quite right, these are people who are near the top of the charts in terms of skill and practice. And they're also people who are kind and incredibly enthusiastic about the hobby and more than willing to ring "whatever" to help us out. It was a good practice.
Nice long lunch on the greenway in the sunshine, and then Austin and I split a frozen apple cider and chatted before parting ways --he had a concert last night, and I was hurrying home to dress for the ball. I made myself look quite pretty (and only forgot the makeup bag at home --so no pretty eyes, but that's fine, the rest of me was overwhelmingly extra As It Should Be). I got many a compliment, and enjoyed being outside to eat hors d'ouvors and the like.
I danced 8/18 dances, which is definitely on the low end, but not completely ridiculous. I spent the rest of the time chatting with people I haven't seen in a while, or seen enough --I still haven't quite internalized that Magus and Keira live _close_ now, and it's not unusual to see them! (It's still exciting to see them).
Home again home again, where I...fucked around and played video games and flopped and somehow didn't go to bed proper until about 4am? I think I _must've_ slept some at my laptop?
Today was the brunch, and I got up too early and had some brain downtime playing on my phone. Eventually I properly pealed myself out of bed, and got dressed, and wandered out to the garage to repair my ~actual~ bicycle. (Blue Bikes do not extend to the place brunch was hosted, but it's actually a quite lovely ride and so I didn't want to try and find a car). Vin's been down since...at least November, but I've had the pieces to fix her for ages and ages just...not done so. Blue Bikes have been Very Convenient these last six months, is what I'm saying.
Brunch was again a mix of lovely people I haven't seen enough of lately. I bought some dance books I was missing, and washed a lot of dishes (mostly while chatting to Gail which was really lovely, she is a _delight_) and ate nice food in the mostly-sunshine and listened to music and saw several wee children I haven't seen much of late, and that was all just divine. I was part of clean-up crew, and we were all leaving the house by 3:15, which is pretty damn good for a party that claimed to end at 3.
I made it most of the way home before I suddenly remembered that this weekend was the Joie de Vivre pop-up garage sale. See, Linda closed sometime during the early pandemic, which I missed because pandemic (and who can pay attention to emails?) which was...really fucking sad, yanno? But she had the remains of her stock available in her little garage and driveway and basement, and she was doing a one-last-weekend to try and get rid of quite a lot of stuff.
So I got to shop at Joie de Vivre a final time, as it were, and when I arrived she even looked at me and said "aren't you the one with the eels?" and I got to tell that wonderful story. I'm still terribly sad the shop is closed --it was one of the most wonderful discoveries of my freshman year of college-- but I am feeling true closure at getting this One Last Huzzah.
(There were not any kaleidoscopes for sale, which is good, as I probably would've bought _all_ of them. I bought goofy things, mostly, but a few beautiful things too. And the last two little rubber eels.)
And then home again for real, where I learned Ezri and Rey had invited the upstairs gaybor for dinner. Very good curry and pretty good company and a lovely porch breeze --it was nice to eat outside, and good that the weather was actually okay for that for once. (Alas, gaybor is moving out, but so is cishetbor and they are leaving queerbor who is getting two more queerbors for us. We are a _very_ densely queer part of Somerville, is what I'm saying).
And now I will go to bed. Five more weeks of school, to answer the question everyone at the ball most wanted to ask.
