sorcyress: Just a picture of my eye (Me-Eye)

Ruth.

I danced on my grandmother's grave today.

My mother's mother, who died before I was born, before my parents ever even met, and who I have interacted with, as it were, exactly once prior, when I was very young. But all of a sudden, we've a reason to be in the middle of the country again, and time, and mom was able to find that the cemetery was not very far away at all, only a couple hours drive.

So this morning mom and I left the house and drove for many miles, and arrived all of a sudden at a little patch of green and stone in the middle of the world. We drove up to the family plot, and we took pictures of the headstones while my mother told me stories of relatives I've never known and linked the family tree together for me.

I sat for a bit by Grandma Ruth's headstone, and talked at her, in my own way. I was honest, about the poly thing and stuff, and I think she's okay with all of it. Everything I've ever heard of her makes me like her.

And before we left, mom and I took hands and we danced on my grandmother's grave, three generations of women named Ruth, and it was nice. It was right.

(I find it interesting that I can't define the characteristics that make a situation feel "right", but even so I attach an importance to making sure my world feels thus.)

And that's me. Someone remind me to go back and visit again in another decade or so. I've a precedent set now, after all.

I doubt anyone can, given a general enough set of situations. I certainly can't, even for most specific situations I can think of. It's one of those things that Just Is.

I would say that sometimes there's a quality to the light, or a hyper-awareness of the act itself, but I agree that it's definitely not universal.

Your Grandmother Ruth

was great. Out of all the moms-of-friends I knew, she was my fave. I loved hanging out at your mom's house because she had the coolest parents in the neighborhood. Your grandma was the first adult to treat me like a person who was worth talking to, who didn't dismiss me as just another kid.

God, I am sorry to have blathered about myself. Your post just sparked memories.

She would have adored you.

Please *please* don't apologize for having blathered. One, I love learning about people and I love getting comments that say interesting things (and if you're my friend (like you are), everything you have to say is interesting). And two, I think it's the best sort of memorial to her to learn what I can, and hear the stories that not just mom, but other people have to tell.

So thank you. It's good to know she was awesome.

that, depending upon what tfwsoare you used (Outlook, etc.) to read your e-mail, it probably saved e-mail addresses of your contacts (i.e. your address book) on your computer's hard drive. None of the addresses you have saved will be on your ISP's web browser e-mail.For future reference, you probably could have exported them in some format (I would recommend vCard) and turned around an imported them into you ISP's web interface (or saved them off on a thumb drive, etc.).I would recommend going to and signing up for an e-mail address there. That way, it is not tied to your ISP, or any particular computer, etc. Google also offers gmail (same thing). These are read your e-mail through a web browser type interfaces. Your Yahoo!Mail address book is saved on Yahoo's computers, which they keep backups of, so you should not loose anything there.PS: With Yahoo!Mail, you can set it up to read your ISP's e-mail and save it in your Yahoo!Mail's in-box. You just need to know the address of the POP server (Post Office Protocol), usually pop.ispname.com. So, you can use Yahoo!Mail and still continue to get e-mails sent to your ISP's address.
