Take a moment to help me ease my guilt by clicking the linky above and learning about Joshua A Norton --Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico.

He is the frigging MAN! Seriously, I have seen cool, and this is cooler then that.

Wikipedia never ceases to amaze me. I wonder how many times its been nominated for deletion.

I don't particularily care if he's real or not. He's just AWESOME!

Oh, he's real. Mark Twain knew of him, and based a character in 'Huckleberry Finn' on him.

That is because Mark Twain is also one of the people who would clearly be invited to my Dinner Party.

Wow. What a fascinating person.

I have to wonder how it would be taken if someone did today the sort of things he did then. Not well, I'd imagine.

Yeah, which is a pity. Poor world, missing out on the greatness of the potential Norton II

Indeed, and yea, verily! The Emperor was indeed a real guy and an amazing character. He's all over my CDAY (a special calendar I keep on my yaptop which is customizable to insert events and birthdays). I hope that the Wiki has the anecdote about the Emperor breaking up a potential riot by walking to the middle of the street and reciting the Beatitudes. That is a man.

He is super neat.

I actually found him back in November, when I had to do a project about five Roman emporers. Wikipedia has a "List of Emporer's" page, and when I saw an American Emp on there, I *had* to look him up.
