Limbs, and the putting of myself upon them.

My hints have been increasingly unsubtle these past two months: I have a secret project, that I have been working on and not telling anybody about. I would, as I pointed out alongside my New Years resolution, tell you in March.

Because let's be honest, I am not the most reliable of people. I may come up with all sorts of interesting and excellent ideas and plans, but I know full well that I have no follow-through. I joke with myself about it, when I get excited about something New and Shiny. "Good luck Sor. Six months from now, when you reread this, let's see if you've actually done anything for it. Oh, you haven't? More's the pity, what a surprise."

I figured two months was a good litmus test. If I could keep this project going for two months, still have ideas, still put effort and energy into it, that was probably a good sign. If I could still be excited about something ultimately silly and pointless, well, that's a better one.

I'm still excited.

Ladies, Gentlemen, and Humans of all sorts, I have started a blog. I have posted at least once a week since I started it. It exists. It updates. And I am filled with glee that I suddenly have a better defined place to talk about certain subjects.

It's called Ambidancetrous in Boston. In it, I talk about dancing, about gender, about roles, about costuming. And about dancing.

It has a real live domain name1, better than just the dotblogspot that I hope to render temporary. You can find it at ambidancetrous.com or just ambidancetro.us. It has posts, talking about...nothing of real import, but about all those things I mentioned above. I have a file with a half-dozen ideas, and I know there's another two or three dozen things I want to talk about or post there that I haven't written down yet.

I am so excited about this. All that's left is to get business cards3 to pass out at NEFFA, and I will be the coolest little genderqueer dancer this side of the Mississippi.

So go check it out. You know, if you're into that sort of thing.

MOOP!

1: Thanks Sparr2.
2: yes, there were people who aren't you who knew that this existed before you did. I'm very cruel like that. Or, you know, it came up in conversation somehow and I mentioned it. Or you were lucky enough to be one of the places I started to use it as my default URL instead of my livejournal (oh hi Letters from Titan)
3: Gee, if only I knew someone who like...owned a printing press or something. Hmmmm. ;D

Since you have already been informed about the link issue, I will go off to read it now instead of continuing to study. Dance is more interesting than child psychology midterms. (I think I'll be okay regardless of continued studying or not. My professor's not a terribly hard grader, and I'm mostly set on the concepts, well enough to write nice mini-essays or short answers for a majority of them anyway.)

A day late ...

In a sense it is a shame you didn't post about this a day earlier.

Avery makes some business cards that you can run through a laser printer. I have some samples (printed) that I could show you. While I don't have a printing press, I do have a laser printer or six. There is always next time or maybe some Tuesday I will stop by Diesel again to run into friends.

Or I guess you could always go to Staples / FedEx Kinkos / or one of the local copy shops. I suspect you are likely to get the best service at one of the local copy shops.

P.S. In the back of my mind, I'm thinking "OMG another thing to procrastinate over." And I'm not sure if that comment applies to you, me, the world, or what. ;)

P.P.S. And of course that P.S. can apply to both the blog and the business cards.

VistaPrint will give you 250 business cards for free, which probably compares favorably with most of the other options, unless the Avery ones are extraordinarily cheap.

IIRC, the free VistaPrint cards come with advertising on the back and a lifetime of spam. Most people think they are worth less than you pay for them.

Mine don't seem to have anything on the back, and I'm pretty sure they were the free ones, though I could be wrong about that. I don't see much spam in general, so I don't know how much they send out. :-)

The advertising on the back is subtle enough I don't mind it at all for personal cards. There's a level of professionality at which you wouldn't want it, but at that level you'd also want a less stock image and layout than they offer for the free cards.

I've never had a spam problem from them.

The print and cardstock quality are far above what you get with a laser printer (I have some of those too), though there's the advertising and limited layout issue.

"Free" is really a few dollars for shipping. It might have been as much as $5, which would be, what, 2c/card? Cheaper than the Avery sheets alone, last time I priced them.

I have a friend who's part of an MIT service frat with a printing press. They handprint business cards for the price of the cards --about four bucks per hundred or something.

When I'm in town for a couple days with downtime, let's get together and work out a design. Next weekend (12th) sometime?

It looks great!

the Feb 3rd post "please, think of the newbies" needs some font size adjustment.

Do you want people to point out typos?
