sorcyress: A character from a comic about the maintenance workers of the universe, holding a thumbs up and saying "MOOP!" (Zonker-MOOP!)

(no subject)

Things that I have determined:

*They found a self-replicating design for Conway's Game of Life, something that they weren't expecting to achieve for another decade or so.

*Seanan McGuire's Red Roses and Dead Things is one *hell* of a good album. (Yes, my music is rapidly approaching a type, shuddup)

*Girls wearing labcoats and little else are pretty hot, just on principle.

*I might be boy-crazy

*Being hyper-flirty-silly is an awesome mood, especially when I can actually get things done through it.

And now I go sleep, so tomorrow I can accomplish things for mom and drive to Origins. BYE GUYS, BE GOOD WHILE I'M GONE!

Surprisingly, despite working in chemistry, I have yet to see anyone come in wearing a labcoat and little else. :(

" First replicating creature spawned in life simulator " <- "Dear supporters of intelligent design; fuuuuuuuuuuuuck youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu <3" headline fixed

Unfortunately, the Gemini pattern was very carefully designed by a designer named Andrew Wade, so it doesn't say a whole lot about ID. In fact, the Wadeians in the Life universe have probably already started sticking literature under the doors of all the little gliders, blinkers, and blocks.

Want to tell her yourself?

I've met her before. She's a neat gal.

The self-replicating life thing was very unexpected. I'm not sure where you are going the timeline of another decade. It wasn't at all clear it was even doable. The design incidentally is quite pretty to watch in action.

Oh, and one other important note: There are self-replicators in other cellular automata systems slightly more complicated than Life already. But this shows that one can do so in a very simple, Turing-complete system which wasn't really done in a substantially non-trivial fashion before. Most of the other such systems are ones where, as I understand it, the rules were specifically designed to make self-replicating structures easy, which is very much not the case in Life.

I make no promises to be good whilst you're off gallivanting around.
