An open letter

Dear self.

Well, I guess this is just resounding fucking proof that you're not a functional human being. Your emotional stability should not be dependant on other people, ever. Grow up, stop crying, and pretend to be an adult. You know, that thing that you're so desperate for people to see you as?

Luv, me.

P.S: You're not worth it. Get over yourself.

Sweetie, it takes some people years, and I mean years, to be develop independence. It doesn't mean that they are not adults. It means they're trying and in process.

As for the "you're not worth it," harrumph. You most certainly are. If you are hurting, you are hurting and one of the best things you can do for yourself is to acknowledge that fact. Sweeping it under the rug and telling yourself to just buck up and deal only makes it go underground and then come out in the least appropriate times. Sure, on the surface you seem ok but underneath you're a roiling boiling mass of emotion and that can be damaging. One of my favorite quotes is that "Most men (people) lead lives of quiet desperation." It is true. Most of us barely skim the surface.

So, acknowledging your feelings, feeling them and then dealing with them is one of the best and most adult things you can do. Too many people don't acknowledge their feelings and then things get all kerflunked when the feelings seep out in other ways.
