The topic of musical horizons got me thinking. There was a post here on this blog asking for music recommendations awhile back. I waffled back and forth between two songs for a little while and finally decided on "The Ballad of Barry Allen" by Jim's Big Ego. It was, in my mind, the safer, geekier, more obscure song. As it turned out though you had already heard of Jim's Big Ego. I probably should have came right back with that second song, but for whatever reason, I did not.

The second song is "It's along way to the top (If you wanna rock and roll)" by AC/DC. There are many reasons I chose this song, but it's gonna take a while to explain:

First of all, it's one of my favorite AC/DC songs of all time (Give me a little credit here: I'm familiar with more than just Back in Black, Highway to Hell, and..uh..You Shook me All Night Long [I realize that two of those are from the same album; Please bear with me)

The thing about AC/DC is that they've basically had two frontmen: Bon Scott and then Brian Johnson after Scott died. "Long Way to the top" was a favorite of Scotts, so when Johnson took over he avoided performing that song live. Part of the reason Bon Scott was so fond? of the song (I guess) is that Scott has Scottish ancestry, it features bagpipes, and he actually does some bagpiping himself.

Enter a certain music video of a certain song... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1iR2Wi3u5o)

It's got men (In kilts, which I know you like!) playing bagpipes, with a little accompanyment by the frontman on his own bagpipe. It's a pretty darn good song in my honest opinion. So there it is. (A little caveat about the kilts: there's like one shot of the kilts, which I apologize in advance for. The link goes to a version of the video I am not as familiar with; For some reason I could not find the version I was looking for.)

I hope you like it. (And no, it won't be the end of the world if you're familiar with the song, or have seen the video already, i just thought you might like it on the off chance that you hadn't. Note also that this song was featured in the movie School of Rock over the credits...)
