a) convention attendees not infrequently costume in clothing typically reserved for not their identified gender, not their perceived gender, or dress as characters other than their identified/perceived gender. IOW, hardly anybody would care.
b) Steampunk definitely has a lot of space for tomboy costume, even in a formal setting, as it features a lot of adventurers.
c) That trail has already been blazed in my corner of the dance community.
