(no subject)

For 160$, I can fly down to Maryland the weekend before I have to go down there anyways, and help the Satanic Mechanics take my little sister's Rocky Horror virginity.

I am...really tempted. Not at all sure that I can afford it, almost positive that I shouldn't do this, but tempted. It's the weekend between finals for me, unfortunately. I'm not just going to be in Maryland on time, not with my teaching and calc finals to take on the 11th and 12th.

You people are smart. What are other cheap, (relatively?) quick ways to get from Boston to Maryland? How in advance do I need to plan? Am I being a moron, and should I just let [livejournal.com profile] shadowcaptain do this himself, and aren't there plenty of other groups in the area who we could go see perform together?

Man, someday I'll be rich and famous, and impulse visits won't have to be planned out two and a half months in advance.

MOOP!

(Also, NTS: Delta and Airtran. USAirways is more expensive and takes longer. Investigate busses?)

ETA: Amtrack is fail. Chinatown bus is promising --seven and a half hours each way (if there's no traffic) but only costs about sixty bucks total, and if I play my cards right, I may very well have wifi for half of it.)

see if you can get a ride/bus/etc to Providence airport or Manchester, NH and try Southwest.

In other news, getting out of town right before finals is rarely a good idea. You're not a problem student, of course, but neither will you be happy with B's :)

Discount busses are good, though they take a while. Be warned, though: it sounds like you're looking at Bolt. Last I checked, Bolt does *not* stop in Chinatown in NYC, so if you're connecting to a true Chinatown bus you'll need to trek across town to get to it.

This may be far enough in advance that you can get good rates on Bolt and the like and just go through Port Authority, though.

Mmm. Bad plan if you ask me, leaving the week before finals. In addition to losing the study time, when you come back you won't be motivated to pick up studying again because of the break.

You have finals in mid-April?

[identity profile] kdsorceress.livejournal.com 2009-02-24 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope, beginning of May. The ninth of May is the first time after Aly turns sixteen that the Mechanics are playing.

the earlier you book the buses the cheaper they are. Lee went from Baltimore to NY for $1.50.

definitely avoid a bus connection where one is Penn Stationish and one is chinatown. Megabus should do the trick, and they are wifi.

I was looking at train schedules online and suddenly there was a gaggle of editors in my cubicle looking over my shoulder. "WHY ARE YOU LOOKING AT TRAIN SCHEDULES???" they all but shrieked. There followed a lengthy and spirited discussion over the pros and cons of various forms of travel, followed by anecdotes of experiences people had trying to find cheap travel when they were college students, followed by some amount of talk of the dangers of hitch-hiking. I think we're going to have a meeting about the whole thing later this afternoon.

Sometimes, I just totally love my co-workers.

Anyhoo, the consensus: Take the bus. Wear a burkha. Don't talk to strangers.

Hope this helps. If you come, have a safe trip and a great time!

My first time will be with you, Kat. If you can't make it, I'm not doing it that night.

But that said, don't feel pressured. I'll have other stuff to do as well.

What you should go with. True love means saying "I'll wait for you".

Awwww, that just made my day. I feel all warm and squishy inside... you sisters are the best!

Personally Alys seems perfectly happy to wait and if I were you I wouldn't waste the money (and especially TIME) for an event that doesn't HAVE to occur that weekend.

love,
your
Mom

Chinatown bus is a good thing. Bring earplugs and maybe a blanket.

I used to take them a LOT when Rob and I were doing the long-distance thing.

BTW, WHERE is this theater? Rob's got Janny-less cons 2 out of 4 weekends in March, so I'm actually free for once...

"Busses" are kisses. "Buses" are vehicles that move people en masse, or electrical circuits that do the same thing with signals. Just so you know.

As for your problem, find a friend with their own plane!
