From an e-mail from school:

The new card is necessary due to the expansion of card uses including a debt-like feature for purchases within the bookstore and other local merchants.

...uh...Lesley? Do you mean, you know, debit? Because I'm not sure I'm really into the idea of you giving me a mandatory id card with a debt-like feature. That sounds like it would be not particularly useful.

My birthday was pretty much perfectly lovely. Aly wins the most points, for calling me closest to my actual birthtime, but pretty much anyone who wished me happy birthday in any way is a wonderful person. Yes, even the line of people at Dragon*Con. (Thanks mom!)

The internet at BelmHaus is being weirdly cyclic --it makes having a sane conversation on IM difficult, to say the least. Bear with me and all that.

I may make it illegal for me to ever eat a lemon meringue pie that's more than, oh, eight or nine hours old. Because my birthday pie was that young, and sheesus, that was pretty much made of delicious and amazing.

Unfortunately, the next book of my current favourite addiction (Transmetropolitan, by Warren Ellis) is out of print until three weeks into September or so. Yes, only three weeks. Yes, if I got my act together, I could borrow or torrent it. But for some reason, I want this one --all of it, mind-- in paper form, maybe so I can put them into the bathroom of some future apartment or something. To supplement the shakes, I've been going ahead and buying what seems to be "any other thing written by Ellis ever".

Red/Tokyo Storm Warning is a pair of short comics, in one book. I liked both, but I think they could definitely have benefitted from a longer form --Red, I can see remaining in its short form, though I would like to know more backstory to it, but TSW just seemed rushed. It's a clever plot, but it's rushed.

Crooked Little Vein is...Jesus. It's dark and perverted and absolutely dirty and I bought it and read the entire thing within about five hours. Totally reccomended, though probably more for those with strong stomachs. Kyu, if you're listening, you totally need to get a copy of this novel and read it. It reminds me of the little Chuck Palahniuk I've actually read. Actually, wow, now I really need to go find another copy of Haunted and reread it, because goddamn, that has the exact same filthy feel to it.

Transmetropolitan volume one is, of course, awesome, and the reason I am spending so much of my money at comic shops these days. I bought it a couple weeks ago, when I was out wandering with Blue, because a couple of people who I trust highly recommended it. Spider Jeruselum is absolutely batshit. And a journalist. And he has the best damn glasses this side of Tenney and the 3D specs.

And since I might as well speak on all the Ellis graphic novels I've got, Fell is brilliant, and beautiful, and I'm quite pleased that the Katters bullied me into buying it last Christmas or so. What I am less pleased with is the lack of another issue, because damnit, goooood.

Annnnnnndyes. This entry has degenerated quite enough, I would think.

Too Long, Didn't Read Version: My life is good, go read Warren Ellis.
